About MCWR
MAS Council for Water and River (MCWR) is an evolving collective originally formed by like-minded individuals who were concerned about the state of the water bodies, globally. Currently, it works towards bringing together individuals, professionals, organizations, and societies working in the field of preservation, conservation, rejuvenation, revival, management and maintenance of rivers and water bodies.
The seeds of the collective were sown around 2017-18 when some concerned friends and individuals from different walks of life decided to build a knowledge ecosystem around water bodies and River Yamuna. Motivated by the idea of how an improved state of water bodies will eventually result in a million human smiles, they started building an organic online repository of resources with a view to create awareness around water bodies/Yamuna. Known as ‘Million Smiles’ ( link to old website given here) , this initiative appreciated and documented the multiplicity of approaches in dealing with issues related to water bodies/Yamuna, and their intersections across disciplines and skill domains.
After engaging with the idea of ‘Million Smiles’ for some years, the founding members of the collective decided to broaden the scope of its work and embark on a more ambitious and holistic journey. They therefore decided to bring together domain experts, industry professionals, organizations, and societies—from water management, hydrology, geology, mining, ecology & environment, humanities and social science, construction, surface and river transport, information technology and other related fields—to build a common knowledge and expertise platform to comprehensively deal with issues related to rivers and water bodies. This is how ‘Million Added Smiles’ (MAS) and MAS Council for Water and River (MCWR) was born.
